Unbelievable… Lukas took his first win at the first race of the French Regional Championship (Ligue Hauts de France). Ostricourt is our home race, given it’s a 45min drive from Kortrijk, yet we could not have imagined we would take the victory after our podium two weeks ago in GK4. 2 years ago Lukas did not even know what a kart was…
We struggled during training on Saturday only finding our best times by the end of the day. Yet on Sunday it all just worked out. During qualifying practice Tom Damez took P1 and Lukas P2. With an all front row lock-out for CRG Belgium we had a perfect position for heat 1 and 2, respectively finishing the heats in P2 and P3. Unfortunately we took a penalty during the superheat for a launched start. It dropped us back to P4 for the start of the finals.
During the start of the final race Lukas did not manage to hold his position and dropped to P8. Yet by the end of the first lap he managed to get back to P3. Following closely behind Tom Damez and Edouard Berger. While Edouard Berger dropped out it was Paul Dussart who came closer to the leaders of the race. But in the penultimate lap Lukas performed an outstanding manoeuvre putting him in P1. In the event both Paul and Tom touched and as such lost speed going into the technical section of the track. It gave Lukas an advantage of several seconds and from there on it was just finishing the race.
