Round 4 of IAME Series Benelux at Genk – “ten percent luck, lots of skill, full of concentrated power of will”
We’ve entered this round with the ambition to learn and grow given we dropped to 7th in the championship. But as always you should never give up. With a tough warm-up in the morning, Lukas managed to clinch P5 in the qualifying practice. While not flawless he completed heat 1 in P6 and heat 2 in P4.
We started P5 in the finals and with the space in 3rd free we managed to get a stellar launch into turn 1. El Haouti, Eloan Poissonnet and Lukas immediately took a gap to the rest of the field. It was only after a few laps that Lukas had to let them go. What happened next was a textbook race between Jason Beganovic and Lukas for third place showing a combination of working together to catch up and fair fighting for 3rd place. In the penultimate lap Lukas made his move, followed by a perfectly executed defense manoeuvre at the podium and in the final turn.
Then it was a race to the finish line! Third place was in the bags and our first podium in IAME Series Benelux
Not given we did not even plan to drive all IAME Series Benelux races at first. This one is well deserved after lots of hard work over the past months catching up with other driver and teams with a lot more experience. A big thank you to Claude Bal, CRG Belgium and CRG Factory for all the support, the material, the advise, the belief. And the Precision kart team for the fantastic chains.
And finally, we wouldn’t be here without you, our fans, and our sponsors. Thank you FiftyFive, Joris Buyse, LAMAC Machinery and Carwash De Singel.
Oh, by the way, we’ll be back next round in Mariembourg and we’re going for nothing less than a podium spot.
